from Artist Charles Summers

In 2012, as a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers, it was my great honour to be commissioned to make a Diamond Jubilee fan for Her Majesty The Queen.

As you can see from the designs shown, I can paint a wide variety of themes. There are a few completed fans shown. They are painted on silk, as are all my fans.

Why Fans?

I started painting fans when Mrs Hélène Alexander M.B.E of The Fan Museum in Greenwich London asked me to paint a fan for a lady who was getting married. Since then I have painted many more, all commissions.

In 2000 I had the honour and pleasure to paint a fan for the late Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and presented it to her at Clarence House.

In 2007 I was asked to paint a fan for Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall, a commission from her ladies in waiting. I have since painted a further fan for Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall and had the pleasure of presenting the fan to Her at Clarence House.
